Josephine begins her fashion career at the Van Buren
buying office in New York City as an assistant
buyer; meets her future husband Bernard Chaus.
- 1973 – Leaves
job to pursue love of travel.
- 1974 – Takes
position as a buyer for Reynolds, a chain of
specialty stores located in New Jersey.
- 1975 –
Co-founds Bernard Chaus, Inc.; first year sales
reach more than $2,000,000.
- 1977 –
Engages Hong Kong based exclusive overseas
manufacturer; second year sales jump to $10.6
million.
- 1980 –
Assumes role of President of Bernard Chaus, Inc.
- 1986 – Takes
Bernard Chaus, Inc. public; sales reach $334
million.
